10/7/10 update: in response to inquiries about the organizational by-laws, they are posted online here.
Cascade Bicycle Club Annual Membership Meeting
REI Seattle, 222 Yale Ave. N
Thursday, Oct. 21
6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Attention members — get to know your club! Join us for a presentation reviewing 2010 accomplishments led by Chris Weiss, president of the board of directors. Following the presentation, meet department leaders through an interactive panel. Light refreshments provided.
Return your ballot for the 2011 board of directors election at the presentation or by mail. Must be postmarked by October 21.

I don’t understand how this ballot works and how my vote has any impact on the composition of the board. What is the difference whether I fill in the box for only Don but not Chris, both of them, or neither of them? Are they running against each other? How come there is no “Yes” or “No” box?
I’m really concerned by this. It appears that given the lack of a write-in option gives me no way as a Cascade member to make a difference.
Yep, you got it!
At the membership meeting on the 21st someone who knows Roberts rules should bring up a point of order and demand that the election of directors be done over and as according to the by-laws the members will be allowed to make nomination suggestions for the slate. This summer there should have been an all membership notice that nomination suggestions would be considered by the board … this was not done.
Also the membership must be allowed to suggest members for the one year people on the board (before they are allowed on the 2011 slate). The board picks them too!!!
Well, well, reading the new amended by-laws was very interesting. Particularly the sectons relating to nomination of Board candidates and the selection of the nominating committee members and who may be on the committee. See Article XIII, Section 2. Some interesting things are also left unsaid in the recent amendments such as how many Board candidates are nominated compared to the number of Board positions available, as well as the Board’s ability to control the size of the Board of Directors. All very interesting.
I encourage all of you to read those sections carefully, especially the recent amendments.
Additionally.. No one should serve on the board without an extensive cycling background. The board should include at least one cycler/doc/rehabilitation… Sharon

‘Chuck led the Club during a critical time in our 40-year history, helping to grow our membership from 4,500 in 1997 to more than 13,000 members who today enjoy thousands of rides and dozens of events and educational programs every year. His efforts also have helped to position Cascade Bicycle Club as one of the strongest and most influential advocates in the nation for cyclists and cycling.
“While we are grateful for these and other accomplishments during his tenure, the Board has made the decision that Chuck is no longer the right person to lead Cascade into its next phase of growth and opportunity,” said Chris Weiss, chair of the Club’s Board of Directors.’
This shocking Cascade board action seems appropriate for an organization making the switch from a responsible, activist, environmentally sound cycling club by and for cyclists into an organization becoming nothing more than a political machine feeding on itself.
I hope I’m wrong.
btw: Group Health is the only business in Bremerton/Kitsap County who refused to allow a flyer announcing the 1st major COPD Seattle public event in Washington state by the non-profit, American Lung Association of Washington.
Funny thing, two of the speakers were employed by Group Health!
