Ribbon cutting at Saturday’s Neighborhood Greenway celebration!

June 14th, 2012 by

The weather is planning to be beautiful this weekend!  If you are looking for a way to celebrate both the June sunshine and better bicycling facilities in Seattle, look no further than the Wallingford Greenway Celebration! This event will feature a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of Seattle’s first neighborhood greenway-a low stress arterial street on which bicyclists and pedestrians are prioritized.  The Wallingford Greenway, which runs along 44th and 43rd street from Latona Ave to Stone Way, is marked with signage and directional sharrows and also includes bike and pedestrian friendly crossing of Wallingford Avenue and Stone Way.

The Greenway Celebration will take place from 4-7 pm along 44th street from Sunnyside to Bagley, a stretch of road which will be closed to car traffic during the party.  The ribbon cutting will take place at 5 PM with SDOT and city council representatives. Throughout the celebration there will be bike inspired food (bike blender and gelato bike!) and opportunities to walk or bike along the Greenway.

More details, and the full schedule of events are available here.  Don’t miss this chance to celebrate safer streets for pedestrians and bicyclists in Seattle this Saturday!
