As a former club member and occasional cyclist, I have a few suggestions that might help with bicycle safety and public relations with motorists and non riders.
First, It would be good if bicycles could more easily be seen . A standard lighting scheme front and rear would help. Lighting on bikes should be standardized . Next cyclists should wear clothing that is easily spotted and not wear dark colors or Black which so many riders seem to wear.
I feel bicycles should be licensed --pay a fee-$100 per year? something to help contribute to the improvement of the roads for bicycle safety--it should not be all paid for with gas tax revenue. Electric vehicles are now going to pay something to use the roads.
Just some thoughts and I am one who loves to ride
Sincerely Mark Svore

One thing I'd like to see MUCH higher on the agenda is driver education. I'd like to see the current driver written exam expanded by at least 5 questions dedicated to "non-standard vehicle considerations". These should be questions based on things like bicycle, and pedestrian right of way, and issues often misunderstood by drivers. I find that most drivers yelling "get off the road" honestly believe we are doing something illegal by being out there. I find almost no non-bicyclists that understand that a bike has all the rights and responsibilities of a car. Education of this simple fact is, in my observation, the #1 issue affecting cyclist safety today.
