Cycle University opens new West Seattle location becoming the west coast’s largest indoor cycling camp and coaching company

Monday, July 16th, 2012 by

Our friends over at Seattle-based Cycle University, a provider of bike instruction, training and coaching for riders of all ages and skills, have opened a new, 5000 square-foot facility in West Seattle located at 3418 Harbor Avenue SW, directly on the Alki bike trail. This second location gives the company more than 8,000 square feet of bicycle training and retail space, making it the largest bicycle coaching company on the West Coast. Cycle U has come a long way since sharing office space with us in Magnuson Park!

Since its founding in 2004 by local pro cyclist Craig Undem, Cycle University has experienced continual, year-after-year growth. The new store in West Seattle (previously located at a different location in West Seattle) adds more square footage and a dedicated indoor cycling facility to the large retail presence.

“This new location gives us more room to expand our selection of bikes, equipment, and apparel, plus the new indoor cycling center is just great,” says owner Craig Undem. “High ceilings, big windows with views of downtown, and right off of the Alki bike trail make it the perfect location for anyone looking to learn to ride or improve their skills and conditioning.”

Cycle University’s other location is on Sand Point Way, about halfway between the Cascade office and Seattle Childrens. The company began as a coaching program for all levels of bike riders, from first-timers to professional racers. By employing seasoned bike professionals, Cycle U has developed a reputation as the place to go for trustworthy, expert advice. Since its start in 2004, Cycle U has expanded its services to include: bike fitting, fitness testing, skills clinics, private lessons, Indoor Cycling, Elite Indoor Cycling ICE, Indoor winter racing, bootcamps, bike sales, repair, teams and coaching consultations.

Explore new public art bike route in Kent with free Earthworks Bicycle Tour

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012 by

Have you ever been to the Herbert Bayer Earthwork, the Robert Morris Earthwork, the Green River Natural Resource Area, or Lorna Jordan’s Waterworks Garden? These four iconic landscapes in Kent, Seatac and Renton are internationally recognized, but not well known locally, despite existing in our regional back yard.

The Kent Arts Commission wants to see that change.

They are inviting everyone to experience these extraordinary land art reclamation projects, by bike! The Kent Arts Commission has developed what will be a permanent, signed bike route connecting the four earthworks, and has partnered with Cascade to celebrate the opening of the new route with a free inaugural ride on Saturday, June 2. “Share Your Style” Bike Fashion Show

Wednesday, May 16th, 2012 by

 What’s your bike style?

Copenhagen chic?
Performance or safety oriented?
Skinny jeans?
Avant-garde?

Whatever it is (okay, maybe save the body paint for the Fremont Fair), you’re invited to come show it off at our new “Share Your Style” Bike Fashion Show at the Ballard Street Party on May 18.

This is a non-competitive, open-to-anyone, fun opportunity to share what bike style means to you. You’ll also get to answer fun questions, like “what’s in your pannier?” and “what’s your number one bike fashion tip?” Everyone who participates will receive great prizes from our sponsors.

You can sign up in advance online, or at the event from 6:15-6:30 p.m. alongside the KEXP main stage.

Have a especially fashionable rider on your Group Health Commute Challenge team? Nominate them by sending their name and email to annat@cascadebicycleclub.org. We’ll reach out and encourage them to come strut their stuff.

Too shy to get up on stage? You can still come and enjoy the show!
